Cheap domainnames

This is a bi-lingual article (both English and Dutch) regarding where to buy your domainnames or toplevel domain ranges for the best price.

Most hosting companies count on your ignorance, by providing ‘cheap hosting’, while you can actually get hosting for free as recently covered in this article. If you happen to purchase hosting and domainname at the same party, you’ve got to be very careful to not buy domainnames at 200-600% of the value.

That’s why I buy most of my international toplevel domainnames ranges at GoDaddy. They are probably one of the largest hosting and domainname companies on the planet, thus the prices and bulkprices they charge for domainnames are superlow. Bare in mind never to never buy any type of hosting at GoDaddy, as their overcharge and underprovide. GoDaddy’s biggest disadvantage is they use their own bulky Control Panel, which takes a degree in computerscience to operate efficiently. No kidding.

For the exotic toplevel domains I usually use the services of EuroDNS. Be careful when setting the DNS servers for a particular domain at EuroDNS, cause you can only change them after by paying a fee! However they do have an unique coverage of toplevel global domains.

TransIP heeft ‘t beter control panel, goedkopere prijzen en lagere DNS server propagation (~ 2-4uur). Grootste nadeel van TransIP is alleen betaling via automatische incasso, en buiten proportionele administratieve kosten wanneer de incasso mislukt (17,5euro per bestelling); kijkt daar mee uit! Het heeft me al veel geld gekost.
HostNet heeft een hogere DNS server propagation (~ 24-24uur). Dit heeft al veel ergenis bij me opgeroepen, maar wordt de bestelprocedure sneller verwerkt, en is er naast automatische incasso ook betaling per bank en iDeal mogelijk! Op dit moment gaat mijn voorkeur dus uit naar HostNet.NL
