The best Mac OS X source code editors

Yes the WYSIWYG interface of MacroMedia DreamWeaver is second to none. Yet most of the time I’m only interested in editing PHP source code. Something Dreamweaver excels at too, but something a little ‘snappier’ would suffice too.

My favorite editors are:

  • UltraEdit (30day free trial) … I used to use this in Windows 95 as well! Awesome editor, even better embedded FTP support. UltraEdit has NO competition.
  • Coda (shareware) … Apple Design Award in 2007. Coda is different from UltraEdit. As it’s more Mac-ish. I guess it depends what you are used to
What is your favorite editor and why?
