“I know,” conceded the egotistical handler, “but give it to me anyway.”
Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I shall have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it, even if I may not have it at the beginning.

I believe life is constantly testing us for our level of commitment, and life’s greatest rewards are reserved for those who demonstrate a neverending commitment to act until they achieve.
This level of resolve can move mountains, but it must be constant and consistent. As simplistic as this may sound, it is still the common denominator separating those who live their dreams from those who live in regret.

Do not wait for great strength before setting out, for immobility will weaken you further. Do not wait to see clearly before starting; one has to walk toward the light.
When you take the first step, accomplish that tiny little act, the necessity of which may be apparent only to you, you will be astonished to feel that the effort, rather than exhausting your strength, has doubled it– and that you already see more clearly what you have to do next.

The experienced mountain climber is not intimidated by a mountain–he is inspired by it. The persistent winner is not discouraged by a problem–he is challenged by it. Mountains are created to be conquered; adversities are designed to be defeated; problems are sent to be solved. It is better to master one mountain than a thousand foothills.

A winner says, “It may be difficult, but it’s possible.”

Most people fail in life because they major in minor things.
To rise to the top you must first get to the bottom of things.
I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

DON’T STOP NOW
You failed many times, although you may not remember.
The first time you tried to walk, you fell down.
The first time you tried to talk, you could hardly make a sound.
The first time you dressed yourself, you may have looked like a clown.
But you didn’t give up!
Did you hit the ball the first time you swung a bat?
Did you make a cartwheel the first time you tried that?
Did you jerk the car the first time you drove a stick?
Did you do it perfectly the first time you tried a magic trick?
Heavy hitters, the ones who hit the most home runs, also strike out the most, when all is said and done.

STUMBLING BLOCK OR STEPPING STONE?
The best thing that ever happened to boxer Gene Tunney (a Kerry owner) was that he broke both hands in the ring. His manager felt that he could never again punch hard enough to be the heavyweight champion. Instead, Tunney decided that he would become a scientific boxer and win the title as a boxer, not a slugger. Boxing historians will tell you that he developed into one of the best boxers who ever fought. They also will tell you that as a puncher, he would not have had a chance against Jack Dempsey (another Kerry owner), who was considered by many to be the hardest hitter in heavyweight history. Tunney would never have been champion (September 23, 1926) had he not had the problem of his broken hands.
Message: The next time you encounter a difficult climb, obstacle, or problem, you should smile and say, “Here’s my chance to grow.”
