Portable USB Skype solution!

How cool would it be to carry your Skype with you everywhere you go? And be able to chat/have phone conversation anywhere you have access to a computer, even if it does not have Skype installed?

Such a solution is called ‘Skype Portable’. Portable means it’s standalone software that can be run from an USB stick. Due to Skype license restrictions, there’s no such portable software package available. However it’s very easy to create a DIY (Do It Yourself) solution!

Although any USB stick would suffice, you would still have to carry around a headset too then. That’s why I contacted my local Euphony distributor for an euVOX.net USB phone:

Q: Why use Skype if I have euVOX?

Although the monthly plans, unlimited calling rates (without FUP), and cheap calling rates to countries outside the plans of euVOX are cheaper than Skype, euVOX has some distinct disadvantages: you can only call 1 external line in a ‘conference call’ (with 5 other Euvox users), and it’s OEM X-lite SIP client cannot hold other SIP settings. Thus euVOX is perfect for 1on1 conversations, but not good enough for doing business with other people who do not have an euVOX.

Q: So how does owning an euVox benefits me?

A: An euVOX, from hardware point of view, is actually a C-Media external USB soundcard with included in-ear headset + microphone! So you do not need to tow around a headset. It’s all in the package! And … it has 100MB of free USB storage space left!
