I’ve been passively searching for 2 months now, for an easy and FREE way to share a legal 4.5GB DVD ISO image online. How difficult can it possibly be?! Well … IT IS. All the cloud based services offer free storage of about 2-5GB, but the file size is always limited to below the GB. ‘Unlimited’ data storage at hosters like HostGator allow you to upload the file via FTP, but it’s blocked for download; which makes sense due to the data traffic saturation. Hosting it on my own dyndns FTP server was a pretty poor solution as well, with a capped upload speed of 1Mbit/s. So what about Peer-To-Peer FileSharing? Hmmm.
Private or Public torrents are far from easy to setup, and pretty difficult for the receiving side. BearShare is something a lot of people rave about, but it’s not — as far as I understand — platform independable. Limewire is pretty much dead due to lawsuit. So after some googling I found … FrostWire! It’s written in Java (so platform independable), fast, completely free, open source, easy to use, easy to share a file, adware free, spamware free, iTunes compatible, etc. Frankly? I was reading their homepage and it all sounded a little too good to be true; but definitely worth a try! So I downloaded the App, and got it installed within a few seconds, started it up … and the tutorial below immediately BLEW ME AWAY. It’s simply AWESOME.
