Blog Updates and Changelog January 2015

Alright … last month made a lot of small changes to this blog.

This month there are HUGE (unscheduled) changes:

Webtech

The biggest of them all this month, is disconnecting the blog from my ‘old’ project: tell-a-few.com … that has served it’s purpose when I started it 6 years and 6 months ago. As my blog is no longer about educating the masses, but a true personal diary (as you can also read here). After embedding the Empire Avenue widget, and realizing all — except youtube — my social media IDs have been “rhyker2u” … I was questioning myself: “why not migrate everything?” Which is a pile of unplanned time intensive work, but feels like a step in a new and better direction.

migrated rhyker2u.blog to rhyker2u.com (hosted on my own VPS, instead of this shared hoster). Additional benefits are 10GB of storage space for pictures instead of ~ 200MB, faster speeds, total control and ownership.
rewritten htaccess to redirect old rhyker2u.blog references
redirected all rss feeds, google analytics and webmaster tools to rhyker2u.com
added topright social media icons
tell-a-few.com was banned from facebook, rhyker2u isn’t … so added facebook sharing buttons at the left again.
and logical side effect; re-enabled opengraph tags too.
cloudflare full optimization (aggressive caching; making site load within 1.35s)

and that’s probably it for the entire month. Plenty of other things to do.

not quite! 2nd round of updates, due to “WordPress Blank Screen of Death”-issues.

shareaholic plugin displayed related posts, but somehow they never relate much; hence clickthru ratio is limited. So disabled it; speeds up side load times as well.
also using a new socialshare button next to the “badass”-button (moved to the bottom)
