GoDaddy hosting provider review

I’ve been with GoDaddy hosting as of February 17th, 2010. Back then I was looking for a few things:

    • cheap domain name reservation

  • cheap Linux hosting

  • More bandwith then I had with hosters in the past

Quality of tech support

    • e-mail support is the worst I’ve ever witnessed. I had a problem in March with the domainnames not resolving properly. Sent out a request with the issue, what I did to fix it, and what I expected from them. The answer: “if you can please clear your FireFox browser cache sir” … WTF?! Agree, it did have a whole step-by-step manual with it how to do so, but it was the wrong solution.

  • Limited access to error logs, you have to call Godaddy hosting support, to get it activated. But once it activated, you’ll have a lot more insight! Which is great.

  • So I gave up on e-mailing them and instead I call the 24/7 global accessible (at local rates) customer support. I refuse to talk to first line helpdesk people. I understand they are trying to do their job. I always talk to the hosting team (who is knowledgeable, friendly and has solutions within 2-4 minutes).

Would I recommend GoDaddy? No not for hosting, because:

    • as their proprietary interface is a nightmare to work with (I still haven’t being able to forward any e-mail)

  • Downtime is at least once a week.

  • Slow MySQL database server

For domainnames they are awesome though! After recommendations at betterworker.com I’m migrating to hostgator.
